A British tourist has been declared brain dead after falling from a hotel balcony in Athens.

The 17-year-old boy sustained critical injuries after falling head-first at around 5am this morning from the first floor of the property in the suburb of Halandri,north of the Greek capital.

He was taken to Erythros Stavros (Red Cross) Hospital,where doctors confirmed his condition was unrecoverable,ekathimerini reported.

Hellenic Police are now investigating the circumstances around the tragedy.

Officers have arrested a 37-year-old kiosk worker for selling the teenager alcohol after he presented a fake driver’s licence.
